Brief:
Move the parking area away from the house (permission already granted), make the most of the views while providing shelter from the wind and create play and growing space.
Opportunites:
The views up Deeside were fabulous and the space was generous. The owners were keen gardeners and had lots of lovely mature planting.
Challenges:
Windy hilltop site with poor drainage.
Solution:
The vehicle opening in the drystone boundary wall was moved as was a mature fastigiate yew and the leylandii hedge was removed. A gated parking zone was created, the children’s play area was moved and a summerhouse put up. Veg beds and shelter planting were created in the adjoining plot after drainage was improved. Planting included Agapanthus Headbourne Hybrids (the owner was S.African), Achillea Walther Funcke and Anemanthele lessoniana.
