Brief:
Decking, entertaining zone linked to house and curvy shapes, low-maintenance apart from a small veg patch.
Opportunites:
Burn along end of garden with mature trees on bank. Crisp, grey finish to the new house.
Challenges:
Slightly overlooked, public right of way along burnside, low-lying and somewhat damp.
Solution:
Overlapping circles edged with new grey granite cubes formed the lawn areas and a quarter circle deck formed the main seating area. A pergola on the straight sides provided privacy and allowed scope for climbing, scented plants. The steps from the French windows were replaced with decking and a raised circular walkway connected them together. Tiny LED lights set into the decking gave some sparkle in the evening. Planting including Amelanchier, Rodegersia and Camassia will enjoy the damp conditions.
